Countries to cooperate to save Black Sea fish stocks

Fishing fleets from the half-dozen countries bordering the Black Sea have reaped nutritional and economic benefits from this rich resource for centuries. Today, with some fish stocks on the verge of collapse, the countries have agreed to cooperate on a major new programme to bring the latest science-based approaches to fisheries management in the Black Sea.

FAO guide on deep-sea sharks of the Indian Ocean

The FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department has released a new catalogue of the deep–sea sharks of the Indian Ocean, encompassing FAO Fishing Areas 51 and 57, and that portion of Area 47 off South Africa.

This comprehensive, fully illustrated guide includes 8 orders, 23 families, 46 genera, and 117 species of shark–like fishes occurring in the Indian Ocean deep–sea. It provides accounts for all orders, families, and genera and all keys of taxa are fully illustrated.
